Orange signs up Sony Mobile as handset partner for UEFA EURO 2012™ (#football)

If you hadn’t noticed there is a big sporting event in London this summer, but another tournament is also taking place before the Olympic baton is handed over in July.

In June UEFA EURO 2012™ kicks off (boom-boom!) in the Ukraine and Poland, and official sponsor Orange has announced that Sony Mobile will be the global handset partner for the event.

The two companies will be running online competitions, in-store promotions, and live events giving football fans hundreds of opportunities to win tickets to the games, Xperia smartphones and ‘other great gifts’.

These competitions are open to everybody (not just Orange customers) and range from the Orange Supporters’ Cup to the Orange Golden Goal where fans can compete in an Orange Facebook game to win VIP packages to the final of the tournament.

“We aim to support our customers’ passion and to bring EURO 2012™ to life for fans helping them to share their EURO 2012™ experience with friends and family whether they are at home or at the tournament”, said Yves Maitre, Senior VP Mobile Multimedia & Devices at Orange

News of the partnership underscores Orange’s commitment to world football. The company recently sponsored the Orange Africa Cup of Nations that took place in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea earlier this year and has launched a number of football initiatives across the continent.

While this is an interesting partnership it still won’t do much for England’s chances to win the tournament… they currently have two chances. A dog’s chance and no chance.
