Bloody hell, I'm finally part of bloody LinkedIn

This week I officially deleted the Facebook account for this (highly successful and influential etc) blog and decided to take the professional social network LinkedIn seriously.

I’ve never liked LinkedIn, for some reason it reminds of me of a criminal record and unsuccessful job interviews so I have always treated it with contempt. I don’t use it, I don’t ask to be connected to anybody, my CV is reasonably untrue and I only say yes when somebody connects me. Continue reading

DJs and musicians look beyond Facebook for Likes

It came to a head on holiday about a year ago. I was confronted by my wife. I had been having an affair. A casual relationship and furtive interaction had become something sinister and all-consuming. She was right, time needed to be called. It was her and our girls… or Facebook.

She had busted me in beautiful Tegernsee, Germany, as I stood atop a sun-drenched snow-covered mountain. Instead of thinking “This is jaw-droppingly beautiful” or “Let’s make a snowman with the children”, my only thoughts were: “My Facebook fans will love this view of the valley and will generate loads of comments”. It’s easy to give up fags, much harder to forsake Twitter

On New Year’s Eve I gave up smoking after loving the weed since I was 15 years old. So twelve days ago it was the second anniversary of my having done so.

Two, er sorry, three decades of beautiful nicotine in my body, fantastic smokes after a pint, even sex, and wonderful experiences of just thinking over a cigarette.

Bonkers writer Ayn Rand once described that feeling as communing with our ancestors, the emotion similar to how a caveman, sorry caveperson, felt when holding fire. An overblown comparison maybe, but not too far off. Continue reading
